Engineering Services

We provide a broad range of engineering services depending on a specific client’s needs. We serve Architects, Owners and Contractors and are proud that many of our client relationships have existed for some 20 years. Service is the single most important thing that we can provide. We do what we say we will and follow up on the details. We strive to provide the best engineering service possible and to provide a wide range of services related to mechanical and electrical engineering for the building construction industry.

Engineering requires a mix of technical ability and aesthetic sensitivity. We have to carry a wrench in one hand and an Artist’s easel in the other. We have to be concerned and aware of the impact of mechanical and electrical systems on the occupants comfort, productivity and psyche, as well as the space appearance and atmosphere.

The interaction of mechanical and electrical systems not only have to leave the occupants with a positive impression but the systems have to be cost effective, yet long lasting providing the best value over their life. Systems have to minimize maintenance and operating costs while being technically advanced and incorporating the latest technologies.

In order to establish project mechanical and electrical requirements as thoroughly as possible, and to document and publish these requirements, we have developed a NEW PROJECT CHECKLIST which is used on most projects. This check list includes program requirements, work scope requirements, system requirements, construction requirements and most importantly, project budget/construction cost constraints or expectations. As new issues, requirements and experiences are encountered, the master check list is updated so that future projects can benefit from the experiences and learning opportunities of past projects. The check list allows us to coordinate and clarify with our client regarding issues which might not otherwise have been asked or identified until much later in the project. With any project, the more program, scope and cost constraints that can be defined early on, the better the opportunity to achieve project goals in an organized progressive manner. Contact us if you would like to view a copy of the new project check list.

Different client types require different Types as follows:

Architects Traditional Design Services including needs assessments, system studies and energy audits. They also include project design and documentation including typical schematic design, design development, construction documents, construction administration and commissioning phases. Services such as construction cost estimating, value engineering, existing building record document production are also provided when required.

For design build projects, we provide concept design, equipment space sizing, utility service coordination and preparation of design build criteria specifications and concept drawings. Following selection of a design build contractor, we will review contractor design documents for conformance with criteria specifications, review equipment shop drawings and provide field observations to ensure contract conformance.

We also provide peer review services. We will review documents developed by others in order to confirm code conformance, equipment and system sizing, coordination with other disciplines, etc.

Owners An Owner may need engineering services similar to an Architect; however, often an owner needs representation. Owners will need engineers to help manage and oversee their projects and to provide their engineering expertise as if they were an “in-house” employee. These Owners services include the following:

Function as in-house engineer
Write engineering standards
Perform code searches/investigation
Assist in establishing project scope and cost
Write criteria/requirements
Review drawings, write ups, etc. prepared by project architects and engineers
Serve as the engineer of record or oversee the engineer of record
Attend project meetings
Assist with resolving construction issues
Review equipment shop drawings
Provide field observations

Contractors Contractors often secure Design Build contracts and are responsible for both the project design and construction. If a contractor does not have in-house engineering, they will often team with an engineer. We have extensive experience with design build projects and can be a valuable asset and team member. We can help a contractor prepare construction documents as required for permits, while minimizing engineering costs. Typically a design build contractor will have a good idea of the desired design but will need confirmation, calculations, code consultation, document production, record drawings, etc. Some of the most efficient projects start to finish, that we have been involved with, have been design build projects. On design build projects, we know who we are working for.
